Picasa has long been the choice of many who want a simple image processing and management tools. There has been free and relatively easy to use, but dark clouds have been above this service long now.

Now lights go out
As of 1 May this year, Google will extinguish the lights on Picasa for good. This has after all been on the cards since Google Photos launched. By separating out services Photos and Hangouts, they have given a clear signal about what they are going to bet on and no.

The desktop
The support and development of desktop application stops already in March, specifically the 15. From this date will no longer Google develop or launch updates and bug fixes for this program.
